Canoe Star Jo Gwanghee Ranks 5th in Final B... Overall 13th Place
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Our canoeing star Jo Gwang-hee (28, Ulsan City Hall) finished the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 13th place overall, ranking 5th in Final B.
On the 5th, at the Uminomori Water Sports Center in Tokyo, Japan, Jo Gwang-hee competed in the men's kayak single 200m sprint Final B, finishing 5th out of 8 competitors with a time of 36.440 seconds. Accordingly, Jo Gwang-hee ranked 13th overall, following the 8 athletes who advanced to Final A.
Earlier that day, in Semifinal 2, Jo Gwang-hee recorded a time of 36.094 seconds, placing 6th out of 8 athletes, failing to secure a ticket to Final A (medal match), which was granted to the top 4 in each heat. He was 0.160 seconds behind 4th place Saul Craviotto (Spain, 35.934 seconds).

Jo Gwang-hee is the flagship athlete of Korean canoeing. At his first Olympic stage, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he reached the semifinals in both the men's kayak single 200m and double 200m sprint events. He was the only Korean canoeist to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
