Launches DJ&A Mushroom Chips and Potato Wedges, Plans to Expand to 30 Items Within the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] GS25, a convenience store operated by GS Retail, announced on the 5th that it is strengthening its vegan product lineup by adding two new vegan-certified products, 'DJ&A Mushroom Chips 30G' and 'DJ&A Potato Wedges Original 65G.'
GS25 has expanded its vegan products to 15 items this year, a fivefold increase compared to last year (3 items). As the trend of participating in 'veganism' for eco-friendliness and animal protection spreads mainly among the MZ generation pursuing 'value consumption,' the existing vegan products, which were limited to ice cream, have been diversified into ready-to-eat meals, jelly, shakes, and more.
With the expansion of product types, related product sales have also surged. GS25 stated that sales of vegan products from January to July this year increased about 18 times compared to the same period last year. Among the 15 vegan products, 'Veggie Garden Spicy Tteokbokki' and 'Veggie Garden Jjajang Tteokbokki' ranked first and second in sales, respectively. Plant-based protein shake 'Labnosh Drinkable Meal Vegan' followed.
The two newly introduced DJ&A products both contain over 75% raw ingredients and are processed using a low-temperature method that preserves the nutrition, unique taste, and aroma of the raw materials, making them pure vegetarian products. The 'Mushroom Chips' are premium snack products made by frying whole shiitake mushrooms, allowing consumers to enjoy the distinctive aroma of shiitake along with a crispy texture. They are seasoned with a savory seasoning.
The 'Potato Wedges' are thick-cut potato snacks made with a wedge potato concept. They offer a crispy texture along with a harmonious blend of potato flavor and salty seasoning. The price for both products is 5,900 won.
GS25 plans to release vegan products sequentially. The number of vegan products is expected to expand to around 30 items within the year.
