One New Inmate at Dongbu Detention Center Tests Positive for COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] One new inmate at Seoul Eastern Detention Center has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 4th, one inmate who entered the Eastern Detention Center the previous day tested positive in a COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.
In response, the Eastern Detention Center immediately isolated the confirmed case in a separate facility and began PCR testing for 25 staff members and 62 inmates who had contact with the confirmed case. The confirmed inmate is scheduled to be transferred to a living treatment center soon after a decision to suspend detention is made.

The Ministry of Justice stated, "The Eastern Detention Center has notified related agencies such as courts, prosecutors, and police to minimize external activities including court appearances, transfers, and visitations to prevent further spread," adding, "Additional measures will be taken based on the PCR test results."
