Jeongeup-si Promotes 'Dairy Helper Support Project'
[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeollabuk-do (Mayor Yoo Jinseop) is introducing and promoting a dairy helper system to improve the quality of life for dairy farmers and maintain the production base amid threats to the sustainability of dairy farming due to the aging of farm owners and lack of successors.
According to the city on the 4th, the dairy helper support project is a program that supports the labor costs of helper personnel needed for farm management to improve the labor environment of dairy farmers who cannot rest even for a day due to the nature of dairy cows requiring milking more than twice a day.
This year, a total project cost of 104 million KRW is being invested to support dairy helpers for 86 dairy farms in the region.
Dairy farmers can use helper personnel by paying only 50% of the cost when they are unable to work due to holidays such as Lunar New Year and Chuseok, family events, education, travel, or leisure activities.
The helper personnel consist of experts (in pairs) who have completed specialized dairy farming education or have rich experience, such as former dairy farm operators or those experienced in farm management.
They perform farm management tasks such as milking, feeding, barn cleaning, and treatment assistance on behalf of the dairy farmers in case of unexpected situations.
This is implemented as one of the gender equality policy tasks to create a foundation for work-family balance, and the satisfaction of the target farms is reported to be high every year.
The dairy helper support project can be used up to 12 times per farm annually, and farms wishing to use the service can apply to the Jeongeup United Dairy Association.
The city expects that improving the working conditions of dairy farmers will not only encourage the willingness to raise dairy cows and motivate social activities but also increase the enthusiasm of successors to participate in management, greatly contributing to the revitalization of the dairy industry.
A city official said, “Through this project, we plan to continuously expand the program to provide a good opportunity not only to improve the quality of life of dairy farmers but also to broaden the scope of leisure activities.”
