Cheon Jong-won (25, The North Face Climbing Team) is on the verge of advancing to the finals in the newly introduced Olympic sport of sport climbing. On the 3rd, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic men's combined sport climbing qualifiers held at Aomi Urban Sports Park in Tokyo, Japan, he ranked 5th overall in speed and bouldering combined. If he performs well in the final lead event and finishes within the top 8, he will have a chance to compete for a medal in the finals.

Cheon Jong-won is the gold medalist in the combined event at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games. The combined event ranks athletes based on their overall performance in three disciplines: speed, bouldering, and lead. The ranking is determined by multiplying the ranks in each discipline, with the lowest score being first place. Cheon ranked 5th in speed (6.21 seconds) and 10th in bouldering (1T3z 3 10), resulting in a total of 50 points. The final lead event will take place at 9:10 PM. Competitors must climb as high as possible within 6 minutes on a 15-meter-high artificial wall with protruding holds.
