Jeonnam Fire Department Strives to Minimize Damage Amid Ongoing 'Heatwave'
15,152 Personnel Including Firefighters and 396 Equipment Units Deployed... Full Preparedness for Response Activities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Department is making every effort to minimize heatwave damage in rural areas of the province amid the ongoing heatwave.
The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 3rd that since last month until the end of this month, they have been thoroughly conducting heatwave response activities targeting traditional markets, livestock barns, and senior centers across the province.
They are deploying 15,152 firefighting personnel and 396 pieces of equipment from 18 fire stations.
Due to the heatwave continuing for 27 days, they have provided 301 tons of water supply in 51 instances to traditional markets such as Suncheon Jungang Market, livestock barns, and container housing facilities, conducting cooling sprays on floors and roofs to prevent heat-related illnesses.
During this period, by operating the heatwave emergency squads, they deployed 110 ambulances and 855 paramedics, mobilizing 18,790 pieces of 12 types of equipment including ice vests, transporting 30 patients suffering from heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses.
At the COVID-19 temporary screening clinic at Yeosu Expo Station, a disaster site recovery support vehicle has been stationed between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., the peak heat hours, providing rest spaces such as restrooms and shower facilities so that residents can take refuge from the heat.
Additionally, 11,346 volunteer firefighters across the province inspected market facilities for heatwave preparedness and visited elderly living alone households, providing 1,104 care services in 854 visits.
Chief Ma Jaeyoon stated, “As the heatwave prolongs, Jeonnam Fire Department will do its utmost to actively prevent damage and fulfill its role in protecting the safety of the residents.”

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters is expanding the operation of the 119 Life Safety Patrol to all cities and counties in Jeonnam, patrolling rice paddies, fields, and greenhouse complexes, conducting public awareness activities to prevent the occurrence of heat-related illnesses among residents.
