According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters, as of midnight on the 3rd, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 1,202 from the previous day, totaling 202,203. There were 1,152 locally transmitted cases and 50 imported cases. Among the locally transmitted cases, 697 (60.5%) were confirmed in the Seoul metropolitan area. Gyeonggi Province reported the highest number with 344 cases, followed by Seoul with 307 cases, and Incheon with 46 cases.
The proportion of cases outside the metropolitan area approached 40%. By region, there were 78 cases in Daejeon, 70 in Gyeongnam, 67 in Busan, 51 in Chungnam, 38 in Chungbuk, 37 in Daegu, 22 in Gyeongbuk, 20 in Jeju, 17 in Gwangju, 16 in Jeonbuk, 8 in Ulsan, 6 in Sejong, and 4 in Jeonnam, totaling 455 cases.
Fifty imported cases were added. Among them, 11 were detected during quarantine, and 39 were confirmed in the community. There were 23 Korean nationals and 27 foreigners.
The total number of tests conducted in one day exceeded 140,000. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 82,946 tests were conducted, confirming 154 cases, while 13,523 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics outside the metropolitan area, confirming 68 cases.
The cumulative death toll increased by 5 from the previous day to 2,104, and the number of critically ill patients rose by 5 to 331.

Meanwhile, according to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, 473,850 people received their first vaccine dose newly. The cumulative number of first-dose recipients reached 19,947,507, with a vaccination rate of 38.8%. The number of fully vaccinated individuals increased by 35,955 from the previous day to 7,182,557. The vaccination rate among the population for fully vaccinated individuals was recorded at 14%.
