Newly Acquired Shinsoo (新收) Donated Artifacts, Over 300 Items Newly Presented
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Buncheong Culture Museum in Goheung County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced that it has newly renovated the donation exhibition room showcasing artifacts donated by Goheung residents and opened it on the 2nd.
Since 2015, Goheung County has conducted a county-wide donation campaign, receiving 5,813 items from 91 residents. To display the diverse artifacts to visitors, the donation exhibition room was newly renovated.
The newly renovated donation exhibition room richly displays about 300 diverse artifacts related to Goheung’s history and culture, focusing on ceramics and old documents, ranging from prehistoric times to modern and contemporary folk relics.
The exhibited artifacts include ceramics such as Buncheong pottery inkwells, yebin, myeongbal, and Buncheong pottery double-handled cups; old books such as the Dakyungpomanho official document and family registers; and local cultural items like bronze containers (myeonggi) and others. These allow visitors to get closer insights into Goheung’s ceramic culture, local history, and lifestyle culture. In particular, artifacts related to the Buddhist monk Seorim of Geumtap Temple, reflecting his life and spirit as a Buddhist potter, are also on display.
A county official said, “Through the renovation of this exhibition room, we aim to introduce the artifacts collected over a lifetime by donors, widely promote the noble spirit of the donors, and share the value of various donated artifacts with the residents. We especially extend our deep gratitude to all donors who generously donated precious artifacts collected over their lifetimes.”
