Kakao Pay Wins Trademark Dispute Against Naver Over 'Cafein'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Kakao Pay has won the trademark dispute over 'Cafein' against Naver.
According to the financial industry on the 2nd, Kakao Pay applied for the 'Cafein' trademark last month.
'Cafein' is a trademark that Naver applied for in 2003 and registered in 2005. Since then, as Kakao Pay strengthened its point business, the use of the term 'Cafein (Kakao Pay Points)' became necessary. Accordingly, Kakao Pay filed a cancellation trial claiming that Naver had not used the trademark in the past three years, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board accepted this.
