Oral treatment for people with disabilities requires more expertise than for the general public, but until now, patients with disabilities in Ulsan have mostly had to rely on treatment in other regions.
On the 31st, Ulsan City announced that the 'Ulsan Regional Disabled Oral Treatment Center' will officially begin treatment from August 9 to improve accessibility and expertise in dental medical services for local people with disabilities.
Selected in 2019 as a project by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ulsan Regional Disabled Oral Treatment Center was established with 2.5 billion KRW of national and city funds, located in the annex building of Ulsan University Hospital, with a total floor area of 8,543㎡ (from 3 basement floors to 5 above-ground floors).
The center is equipped with a dedicated entrance and parking spaces for the convenience of disabled patients, dental chairs exclusively for people with disabilities, an oral treatment room for severely disabled patients, a general anesthesia operating room, and a recovery room.
From August 2, appointment reservations can be made through the website, and official treatment will begin on the 9th.
To make a reservation, applicants can apply on the website's appointment page, after which the reception staff will call the guardian to confirm the treatment date.
An official from Ulsan City said, "Until now, registered disabled people in Ulsan have faced many difficulties using disabled oral treatment centers in other regions for specialized oral disease treatment."
The center will alleviate the inconvenience of outpatient visits for disabled patients and will serve as a hub medical institution for oral health for people with disabilities by establishing an organic network with central centers, local medical institutions, and public health centers.
Currently, disabled oral treatment centers operate nationwide, including a central center and 12 regional centers in various cities and provinces.
