Central Maritime Police Agency Deploys Aircraft for Special Crackdown on Maritime Illegal Immigration
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Central Regional Coast Guard Aviation Unit will deploy aircraft over the West Sea for a month starting from the 30th to conduct special crackdowns on maritime illegal activities.
Through these crackdowns, they plan to prepare against maritime illegal immigration crimes using small boats and also block illegal fishing and operations that cause damage to fishermen.
Fixed-wing aircraft departing from Gimpo Airport will patrol for six hours from a specific area in the West Sea (a designated water area adjacent below the fishing limit line) to the southernmost Ieodo Ocean Science Station in the West Sea.
During the crackdown, aerial surveillance on the distribution and movement of Sargassum horneri, which damages aquaculture farms, will also be conducted. Sargassum horneri drifts from the coastal areas of the Shandong Peninsula in northern China to the coasts of Jeju and Jeonnam, carried by the northwesterly monsoon winds.
