[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) is strengthening its artificial intelligence-based industrial innovation program education in the southeastern region.

On the 30th at 9 a.m., UNIST will hold the 2nd entrance ceremony for the "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Novatus Academia" at the main auditorium of Building 106, UNIST AI Innovation Park.

AI Novatus Academia is an artificial intelligence education program for employees of companies in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) region.

Thirty-seven employees from local companies will attend the entrance ceremony. They were selected as trainees according to the recruitment schedule that began in June.

The trainees will receive AI industry expert education through training and practice over the next five months.

The first two months consist of theoretical AI education, followed by three months of project work involving practical assignments using actual company data.

The first cohort, which graduated in June, achieved results such as improved process efficiency and cost reduction through practical assignments. Samyangsa Ulsan Plant built an AI model for the sugar manufacturing process, expecting improved manufacturing efficiency.

SkySys, an IT solutions company headquartered in Ulsan, successfully reduced costs by developing an AI model for smart CCTV development.

Shim Jae-young, head of the AI Innovation Park project team and professor at the Graduate School of AI, said, "AI Novatus Academia supports local industry practitioners in creating tangible changes by utilizing artificial intelligence."

Shim added, "Based on the experience of the first cohort, the second cohort will take an advanced program and experience greater growth."

The second cohort consists of 2 employees from large corporations, 5 from mid-sized companies, 23 from small and medium enterprises, and 7 from startups and other affiliations.

Among them, 20 belong to manufacturing companies, making manufacturing the largest sector. Seven are in new business fields such as bio and IoT, eight are in IT solution fields utilizing AI and big data, and two are employees of local public institutions.

President Lee Yong-hoon said, "Graduates of AI Novatus Academia directly experience how AI can be applied in industrial sites and see the potential for change. UNIST AI Innovation Park will continue to sow more seeds of digital innovation in the southeastern region, including Ulsan."

The AI Novatus Academia program is conducted for employees of workplaces in the Bu-Ul-Gyeong region. Employees of mid-sized and small companies receive full tuition support funded by the government.
