[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The number of new COVID-19 cases in the Daejeon area has approached an average of 70 per day over the past week. On the first day of applying social distancing level 4, 75 new cases were reported in Daejeon.
According to Daejeon City on the 28th, a total of 487 people were confirmed positive in the region from the 21st to the 27th.
This means an average of 69.6 confirmed cases per day, with the highest number of cases on the 21st at 81, and the lowest on the 24th at 54.
Additionally, 71 new cases were reported on both the 25th and 26th, and 75 on the 27th, indicating that the spread of COVID-19 is not easing.
The main source of infection for the recently confirmed cases has been identified as a Taekwondo academy located in Doan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon.
At this Taekwondo academy, after the head of the academy was first confirmed positive on the 17th, a total of 217 people including students, their families, and acquaintances have been sequentially infected.
Reflecting the trend of infectious disease spread exceeding 70 cases, the city has upgraded the social distancing level to 4 starting the day before yesterday.
However, even on the first day of social distancing level 4 (the 27th), 75 new cases (43 in the afternoon and 32 in the evening) were reported in the region, showing that the spread is not easily controlled. Among these confirmed cases was one related to the Doan-dong Taekwondo academy.
The quarantine authorities are currently conducting epidemiological investigations into the contacts and movement paths of the new confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, the city plans to maintain social distancing level 4 until the 8th of next month. During level 4, private gatherings are limited to two people after 6 p.m.
Restaurants, cafes, karaoke rooms, and indoor sports facilities are generally prohibited from operating from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day. However, restaurants and cafes may still offer takeout and delivery during these hours.
Gatherings at entertainment facilities, karaoke bars, colatecs, and holdem pubs are banned, and facilities such as academies, movie theaters, reading rooms, beauty salons, arcades, PC rooms, marts, and department stores are restricted from operating from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning.
