Gyeonggi-do to Host 'Data Sovereignty International Forum' in September
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will hold an International Forum on Data Sovereignty this coming September.
On the 28th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will host the '2021 International Forum on Data Sovereignty' both online and offline on September 8 at KINTEX Exhibition Hall 2 in Goyang.
The forum, themed 'My Data My Right,' will feature domestic and international local governments and experts presenting practical cases of data sovereignty and exploring implementation measures.
Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung will deliver the opening speech, and Tim Berners-Lee, the founder of the World Wide Web (www), will give the keynote address on 'Changes in the Digital World and Data Sovereignty.'
Berners-Lee, speaking at a domestic event for the first time in seven years since 2014, proposed principles for a better internet through the 'Contract for the Web' in 2019 and is currently working on projects aimed at restoring the internet ecosystem and decentralizing the web.
Forum participants will also engage in data sovereignty practice performances and global campaigns.
Following lectures by Professor Park Joo-seok of the MyData Global Korea Hub and Katryna Dow, a board member of MyData Global, a discussion session on data sovereignty will be held.
Earlier, Gyeonggi Province has been promoting data sovereignty policies, including the first implementation of 'data dividends' last February, which returned approximately 50 million won in revenue generated from selling local currency usage data back to users.
