Israel to Vaccinate Children Aged 5-11 with Underlying Health Conditions
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Israel has decided to administer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children aged 5 to 11 with underlying health conditions.
On the 27th (local time), the Israeli Ministry of Health announced, "We approve vaccination for high-risk children who may develop severe illness or death if infected with COVID-19."
The single dose for children with underlying conditions is 1 ml (milliliter), which is one-third the amount given to adults.
The vaccination targets include ▲severe obesity ▲severe chronic lung disease ▲severe immunodeficiency ▲neurodevelopmental disorders ▲hemorrhagic heart failure, among others.
The Ministry of Health plans to carefully decide on vaccination approval on a case-by-case basis. They intend to minimize approvals and vaccinate only children most exposed to risk.
This decision came after reports that Pfizer and Moderna will double the scale of clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccines targeting children aged 5 to 11.
