[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Enex is showing strength. Stocks related to Yoon Seok-yeol, the opposition presidential candidate and former Prosecutor General, have been rising for two consecutive days, continuing an upward trend. The growing interest in political theme stocks is also believed to be influenced by the recent correction in metaverse-related stocks, which had emerged as a leading theme in the domestic stock market.
As of 9:51 a.m. on the 27th, Enex is trading at 3,160 won, up 14.91% from the previous day.
Opposition presidential candidates are strongly criticizing the Moon Jae-in administration's real estate policy failures. The main real estate pledges of key opposition candidates focus on large-scale supply expansion and easing floor area ratio regulations.
Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol has not presented specific "Yoon Seok-yeol-style" real estate pledges. However, in recent media interviews, Yoon outlined plans including supply expansion and loan regulations for owners of three or more houses as a basic framework for his pledges. He emphasized, "It is a top priority to ease floor area ratio restrictions and secure sites where the government can build houses to supply many homes at low prices." He also expressed the view that easing capital gains tax and regulating loans for owners holding more than three houses excessively would encourage listings to come onto the market.
News that Yoon’s political fundraising reached the limit within a day is interpreted as having improved investor sentiment toward the ‘Yoon Seok-yeol theme stocks.’
Previously, stocks related to Yoon showed price corrections along with a decline in approval ratings. Since political theme stocks often do not reflect corporate value in their stock prices, most market experts advise conservative investment approaches.
