Honam University’s 'New Technology Special Lecture for IT Novices' Hits Big Success
Demand Floods for Special Lecture Extension and Season 2 Planning
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Honam University (President Park Sangcheol), an ‘AI Specialized University,’ is receiving explosive responses from teenagers nationwide for its ongoing online special lecture series on new technologies titled ‘Curious Wednesday - Time for IT Novices,’ which is being conducted under the banner of ‘AI Popularization for All.’ Requests for extending the special lectures or planning a Season 2 are pouring in.
According to Honam University on the 26th, the ‘For IT Novices~’ special lecture series, which started with the first session by Professor Baek Ran (Department of Computer Engineering) on the 2nd of last month and has completed four sessions as of today, is being held with enthusiastic interest from high school students and frontline teachers across the country, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, Busan, Pohang, Chungnam, Chungbuk, Jeonbuk, Jeju, and Gwangju.
In particular, many teenagers who have participated without fail since the first session have expressed their hope for program extension, even though four sessions remain, requesting additional coverage of various topics such as ▲Machine Learning ▲Drones ▲Smart Farms ▲Neuroscience.
The AI Big Data Research Institute of Honam University (Director Baek Ran), which planned and hosted this special lecture, is highly encouraged by the strong response from participants, in line with its planning intent to ‘lead AI popularization by inviting the best domestic and international lecturers and explaining new technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution era in an easy-to-understand manner.’
Accordingly, regarding requests for series extension or Season 2?often mentioned in popular TV dramas and classic movies?the institute plans to announce future schedules at the 6th session on the 11th of next month after thorough internal review, including additional lecturer recruitment and topic selection.
Director Baek Ran of the AI Big Data Research Institute said, “This program is a learning ground of new knowledge that opens a new horizon for the future to the dream trees of Korea beyond the region, and I am especially proud of the enthusiastic response from nationwide high school seniors and university students.” He added, “We will continue this meaningful time of sharing new technologies from the best domestic and international lecturers with all citizens by using Honam University IT Square, the only AI specialized university in Korea equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, as a communication channel for the entire nation.”
Meanwhile, the special lectures for IT novices consist of a total of eight sessions, held every other Wednesday at the Honam University IT Square 3rd floor Integrated News Center, and are broadcast live in real time via ZOOM and Honam University TV YouTube.
On the 28th at 5 p.m., the 5th session lecture titled ‘What is Big Data?’ will be delivered by Professor Lee Kyungjeon of Kyung Hee University.

Also, the inaugural president of Korea Energy Engineering University, Yoon Euijun (August 11), Professor Lim Seongbae of Saint Mary’s University in the U.S. (August 25), and Professor Kim Juhan of Seoul National University College of Medicine (September 8) have completed preparations for the 6th to 8th sessions and are awaiting meetings with IT novices.
