Ministry of Science and ICT Holds Public Hearing on Support System by Basic Research Fields
Online Live Broadcast for Three Days from the 27th to 29th
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The government will hold a public hearing to apply the support system by academic field for the 2022 Basic Research Project in all fields.
The Ministry of Science and ICT will hold a public hearing via online live streaming from 10 a.m. on the 27th to 5 p.m. on the 29th to implement the researcher-led basic research project support system by academic field in 2022.
This public hearing will be held over three days through the Korea Research Foundation's YouTube channel, targeting researchers and members of representative academic societies in the newly implemented academic field support systems for engineering, ICT·convergence, foundational life sciences, dentistry·Korean medicine·nursing·pharmacy fields in 2022.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to expand the researcher-led basic research budget to 2.52 trillion KRW by 2022, doubling the 2017 level. With the budget increase, the number of applications and selected projects is expected to surge, raising the need for customized support that considers research demand and changes in the research environment by academic field.
Once the support system by academic field is implemented, each field can autonomously adjust the unit cost or research period of basic research projects or operate specialized programs by considering the characteristics of each field within the allocated budget.

The Ministry of Science and ICT will supplement the support plan for full implementation in 2022 by reflecting opinions presented at the public hearing and survey results from researchers in the fields implemented this year.
