Public Procurement Service Conducts 'Heatwave Safety Inspections' at Public Construction Sites
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Public Procurement Service announced on the 26th that it will conduct heatwave safety inspections at 23 public construction sites nationwide until the 30th.
The inspections will focus on whether heat shelters are installed on-site, the actual status of ensuring workers' rest during heatwave warnings and alerts, preparation of heat-related illness prevention measures and rapid emergency response plans in case of patient occurrence, and compliance with worksite regulations.
In particular, the Public Procurement Service recommends stopping work between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., when heatwaves persist with temperatures above 33 degrees Celsius, except for urgent tasks, and urges workers to follow prevention guidelines to avoid heatstroke exposure.
Additionally, construction management sites have been instructed not to force work progress to meet construction deadlines.
According to related laws, if construction is temporarily suspended due to a heatwave, the contract period can be extended or the contract amount adjusted for the suspended period, and delay penalties can be waived for the delayed construction period.
The Public Procurement Service will also check compliance with quarantine rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19 alongside heatwave safety inspections.
Key inspection items include social distancing among workers, site disinfection, and workers' health status.
