Gwangyang-si Focuses on 'Guidance and Promotion' for Illegal Parking Enforcement
[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] On the 22nd, Gwangyang City in Jeonnam announced that it is conducting illegal parking enforcement administration focused on guidance and publicity, such as providing enforcement information via mobile text alerts and prior enforcement broadcasts, to alleviate citizens' economic difficulties and prevent uniform and unilateral crackdowns.
Due to the revision of the Road Traffic Act, a fine of 40,000 KRW (for passenger cars) is imposed for illegal parking in general prohibited zones, but around fire hydrants (marked with red pavement) and elderly/disabled protection zones, the fine is doubled to 80,000 KRW.
In particular, from May 11 this year, to protect and prevent children under 13 years old from traffic accidents, designated protection zones around kindergartens, daycare centers, academies or sports facilities, and elementary schools will incur a fine tripled to 120,000 KRW.
To apply for the enforcement information mobile text service, citizens can submit an application form via ▲Gwangyang City website ▲smartphone app (Parking Enforcement Alert Service Integrated Subscription Assistant) ▲internet ▲or at the City Hall Traffic Department or Eup/Myeon/Dong offices.
Park Yanggyun, head of the Traffic Department, said, “Illegal parking is a major cause of traffic accidents, and we ask for your interest and cooperation to protect citizens' safety and create a safe walking environment.”
