Sherman, U.S. Deputy Secretary, Visits Minister Lee In-young... "Ministry of Unification's Role More Important Than Ever"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 22nd, Lee In-young, Minister of Unification, received a visit from Wendy Sherman, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, and exchanged views on the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and North Korea policy.
According to the Ministry of Unification, Minister Lee evaluated the Biden administration's efforts to resume diplomacy with North Korea and emphasized that "diplomatic engagement with North Korea is more important than anything else at this time for the complete denuclearization and peace-building of the Korean Peninsula," urging South Korea and the U.S. to continue their joint efforts in engaging North Korea.
In response, Deputy Secretary Sherman expressed the U.S. support for inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation, stating that "the role of the Ministry of Unification is more important than anything else for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula."
