The countermeasure meeting was held jointly by the Yeosu City Situation Response Team and Yeosu Police Station at the request of Assemblyman Min Byeong-dae.
The Yeosu Hanjae Intersection traffic accident occurred at around 8:56 a.m. the previous day when a 5-ton trailer carrying finished vehicles came down a downhill slope and consecutively hit pedestrians crossing the crosswalk and vehicles waiting at a signal, damaging 12 vehicles. The accident resulted in 3 deaths and 9 people sustaining serious and minor injuries, totaling 12 casualties.
Assemblyman Min Byeong-dae said, “I pray for the repose of the deceased who lost their lives in this accident and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the injured,” adding, “We will actively support ensuring that compensation for the victims is made to the fullest extent possible.”
He continued, “Unfortunately, the victims who were crossing the crosswalk suffered significant damage,” and pointed out, “The crosswalk location should be changed and reinstalled, and vehicle access should be restricted to allow passage only for vehicles under 5 tons, excluding route buses.”
He also stated, “The Hanjae Intersection where this accident occurred was also the site of a 4.5-ton cargo truck accident last March,” and demanded, “A comprehensive survey of high-traffic accident areas in Yeosu city should be conducted.”
