The sight of Yangcheon District Mayor Kim Su-young standing in front of the camera, clearing her throat, is not unfamiliar. This was on Wednesday, the 14th, during the fourth filming of the Sogong-yeo Briefing.
‘Sogong-yeo’ is an abbreviation of Yangcheon-gu’s administrative philosophy of ‘Communication, Empathy, Participation.’ The ‘Sogong-yeo Briefing’ is a segment where Mayor Kim personally introduces important news or necessary information to residents every Monday, uploaded on Yangcheon-gu’s YouTube channel ‘YangcheonTV’ since July.
Each week, 2 to 3 selected administrative news items are prepared, and filming takes place at the digital studio inside the Yangcheon Digital Media Center, which opened in May.
The ‘Sogong-yeo Briefing’ was planned to timely promote important administrative news such as the opening of the 2nd vaccination center, operation of heatwave shelters, as well as useful information like the opening of the outdoor basketball court at Haenuri Sports Park and events on Yangcheon-gu Office’s SNS channels.
On the 9th, as COVID-19 cases surged in the metropolitan area and Level 4 social distancing was being considered, an emergency briefing was produced and uploaded in addition to the regular briefing to quickly deliver accurate information about the COVID-19 emergency situation, alleviating residents’ anxiety and questions.
The aim was to deliver news through videos ‘so that nothing is missed due to lack of knowledge’ and ‘to make it easy to understand,’ because videos are gaining attention as a communication channel across all generations.
Now, videos are familiar content not only to the MZ generation, which collectively refers to millennials born between the 1980s and early 2000s and Generation Z, but also to middle-aged and older adults. Due to COVID-19, non-face-to-face content such as remote work, online meetings, and online shopping continues to expand.
“Now that I regularly appear on YouTube, I also check the views and comments. I am ready to even ‘mess up’ if needed so that the SNS operated by the district office can become an enjoyable communication platform,” said Mayor Kim.
