Apple Delays Office Return Plans Amid Delta Variant Spread
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] The US IT company Apple has decided to postpone its office return schedule due to concerns over the spread of the Delta variant virus.
On the 19th (local time), Bloomberg reported that Apple made this decision and plans to notify employees at least one month before returning to the office.
Earlier, Apple's CEO Tim Cook stated last month that returning to the office could be possible as early as September.
However, as the Delta variant virus began to spread rapidly recently, the number of daily new confirmed cases in the US doubled compared to last month, worsening the situation again. It is reported that among Apple employees, there were complaints that returning to the office in September was too early.
Additionally, the housing prices in the Silicon Valley area, where Apple's headquarters is located, have soared to unprecedented levels, causing employees to feel burdened about returning to the office. If they have to commute to the office, they need to live near the office building, but it is difficult to afford the housing prices in that area.
Facebook, aware of such issues, has allowed some employees to work permanently from home and decided to adjust salaries based on their place of residence.
