Jangseong-gun Promotes Joint Rice Pest and Disease Control Support Project
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong County is promoting a joint pest control support project for rice.
According to Jangseong County on the 20th, since 2015, the county has introduced and implemented a joint pest control method for rice by simultaneously spraying pesticides by complex using wide-area sprayers and drones on the entire area of general rice cultivation, the first in the nation.
The county stated that this has minimized damage from rice pests and diseases and reduced the workload for elderly farmers, resulting in very high satisfaction among farming households.
This year, considering the timing of pest outbreaks due to climate change, pest control started earlier by more than 20 days than the previous year, beginning on July 13. The support target is general rice farmers within the county, providing 150,000 KRW per hectare including pesticide costs.
During the pest control period continuing until early August, the county plans to operate joint inspection teams in collaboration with towns, townships, and regional agricultural cooperatives to ensure smooth project implementation such as safe pesticide spraying, and to strengthen continuous pest monitoring activities.
A county official said, “By timely pest control to minimize damage, we will do our best to produce high-quality rice with good taste and to achieve this year’s Jeonnam Province goal of producing 500kg of rice per paddy.”
Meanwhile, Jangseong County supports high-quality agricultural materials such as topsoil, box treatment agents, and fertilizers during the seedling stage, and agricultural machinery such as ton bag scales, grain dryers, forklifts, and electric carriers during the harvest period to ensure stable rice production. It also spares no support in processing and distribution fields, including packaging materials, delivery costs, and renovation of milling facilities.
