"Prevent COVID-19 Spread from Entertainment Bars" Gwangju Police Conduct Intensive Crackdown
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency (Chief Kim Jooncheol) announced on the 19th that it will intensively crack down on illegal operations in local entertainment establishments.
This measure was implemented recently to prevent early spread of the 4th wave of COVID-19 cluster infections originating from entertainment venues in Seoul, Busan, and other areas.
For two weeks until the 25th, a large number of personnel including police riot squads, vice investigation teams, police stations, and local governments will be deployed to conduct intensive crackdowns on entertainment facilities.
The crackdown targets violations such as disobeying the Gwangju social distancing level 2 quarantine guidelines that prohibit gatherings in entertainment facilities (more than 5 people), violations of operating hour restrictions, illegal reopening during suspension due to quarantine guideline violations, and violations of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act such as failure to implement electronic entry logs.
Previously, from April 5th to the 27th of last month, the police inspected 3,478 entertainment establishments in the Gwangju area over 12 weeks, detecting 71 cases and 93 individuals involved in illegal activities and quarantine rule violations.
