Samsung to Hold Galaxy Unpacked on August 11... Only Official Announcement Remains
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics' first unpacking event of the second half of the year, expected to be held on the 11th of next month, seems to be just awaiting official confirmation.
On the 18th (local time), IT media PhoneArena and others reported, citing famous IT tipster Evan Blass, that Samsung Electronics' Galaxy unpack event will be held on August 11 at 5 PM Moscow time.
The image Evan Blass revealed on his Twitter is presumed to be a pre-announcement image for the Galaxy unpack event. The image contains the phrase "The future will open in a new way. Soon" and geometric shapes that appear to represent the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3.
So far, Samsung Electronics has not officially announced the schedule for the second half Galaxy unpack event, but with continuous leaks of product rendering images and event information, the unpacking date of the 11th of next month has become a foregone conclusion. Samsung Electronics has recently warned IT tipsters and others about copyright infringement due to repeated leaks of new product information, but even the online event pre-notification image has been revealed.
At this unpack event, Samsung Electronics is expected to showcase not only the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 but also the smartwatch 'Galaxy Watch4' series and wireless earbuds 'Galaxy Buds2'. Among these, the Galaxy Watch4 has officially confirmed its second-half release by announcing the application of the 'One UI Watch' integrated platform developed in collaboration with Google.
Samsung Electronics appears to be making a bold move by introducing new foldable phones with prices reduced compared to previous models at this unpack event. The prices of the new flagship models Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 are expected to be set in the 1 million KRW range. According to industry sources and foreign media, Samsung recently proposed a price of around 1.99 million KRW for the Galaxy Z Fold3 to mobile carriers. This is about 400,000 KRW lower than the previous Galaxy Z Fold2 price of 2.398 million KRW. In price negotiations, the Galaxy Z Flip3's suggested retail price was reportedly set at around 1.28 million KRW, about 400,000 KRW lower than the previous 1.65 million KRW. Samsung's significant price reduction for the new models is interpreted as an effort to popularize foldable phones.
Mobile carriers are also rushing to prepare for the new foldable phones by selling older models at lower prices. According to related industries, LG Uplus raised the official subsidy for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G from 650,000 KRW to 700,000 KRW on the 17th. Currently, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G's retail price at LG Uplus is 1,349,700 KRW, and if customers use LG Uplus's '5G Premier Essential' plan costing 85,000 KRW per month, the official subsidy of 700,000 KRW plus an additional 15% distributor subsidy of 105,000 KRW can reduce the actual purchase price to as low as 544,700 KRW.

KT also raised the official subsidy for the Galaxy Z Flip 5G from a maximum of 600,000 KRW to 700,000 KRW on the 14th, lowering the actual purchase price to 544,700 KRW when using the KT Super Plan Basic Choice costing 90,000 KRW per month, combining official and additional subsidies, matching LG Uplus's price. Earlier, SK Telecom also raised the official subsidy for the same model from a maximum of 480,000 KRW to 580,000 KRW on the 1st. When using SK Telecom's 5GX Prime plan costing 89,000 KRW per month, the actual purchase price based on total subsidy payments drops to 582,600 KRW.
