Seoul Hangaram High School to Transition from Autonomous Private High School to General High School
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] Hangaram High School, a self-governing private high school (jasago) located in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, is planning to convert to a general high school.
On the 16th, Hangaram High School stated, "Due to the sharp decline in the school-age population, the policy to abolish jasago, simplification of student record entries, new college admission policies, and the implementation of full free education for high schools, we have faced difficulties in student recruitment." They explained the reason for converting to a general high school, adding, "The scheduled abolition of jasago in 2025 makes it difficult to even hope for an improvement in the situation."
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said, "We will form and operate a consultative body involving the school, foundation, parents, and the education office to ensure Hangaram High School can transition to a general high school stably, and we will support the thorough operation of a transitional integrated curriculum."
