Suncheonman Wetland Selected as an 'Excellent Open Tourism Site' Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Tourism Organization
High Praise for Barrier-Free Route Management, Securing 50 Million KRW Incentive
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 15th that Suncheonman Wetland was selected as an 'Excellent Case' in the Open Tourism Site program hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
The Open Tourism Site contest project is aimed at creating a barrier-free tourism environment so that anyone with mobility difficulties, such as people with disabilities, the elderly, families with infants and young children, and pregnant women, can use tourist sites. Suncheonman Wetland was selected as an open tourism site in 2015 and received a budget of 160 million KRW to improve the tourism environment, including improving tourist routes and renovating parking lots for the disabled.
This excellent case selection was judged among 17 facilities selected over a period of more than three years (from 2015 to 2017) out of a total of 92 open tourism sites. Suncheonman Wetland received high evaluations for managing barrier-free routes that are easily accessible for the elderly and people with disabilities, and was selected as an excellent open tourism site, securing an incentive of 50 million KRW.
The city plans to use the budget received through professional consulting from the Korea Tourism Organization to improve the tourism environment for people with mobility difficulties by ▲ improving facility environments ▲ developing content to support tourism activities for vulnerable tourists ▲ creating convenience facilities.

A city official said, “Suncheonman Wetland has not only the image of Korea’s representative ecotourism site but also the status as a nationwide representative open tourism site,” adding, “We will continue to strive for continuous management and environmental improvement to become a tourist site that anyone can enjoy regardless of age, gender, or disability.”
