Seongsu-dong Performance and Exhibition Venues Established in Seongdong-gu, Rising as a 'Cultural Arts City'
Notice of Detailed Development Plan Decision (Change) for Ttukseom District Unit Plan and Special Planning Zones III·IV on the 15th... Buyeong Hotel Site to Become a Medium-to-Large Multipurpose Performance Hall with Approximately 1,000 Seats, Operated as Acro Seoul Forest Exhibition Hall (D Museum)
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] A series of impressive performance venues are expected to be established in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, drawing attention.
Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Wono) announced on the 15th that the detailed development plans for the Ttukseom district unit plan and Special Planning Zones III and IV have been decided (amended) and officially announced.
The site for the Booyoung Hotel construction will be a medium-to-large multi-purpose performance hall with about 1,000 seats, and Acro Seoul Forest will be operated as an exhibition hall.
The detailed development plans for the Ttukseom district unit plan and Special Planning Zones III and IV, established at 685-700 Seongsu-dong 1-ga (Acro Seoul Forest) and 685-701 (Booyoung Hotel construction site), reflect the amendments approved by the Seoul City Urban and Architectural Joint Committee in February, were re-examined in June, and were decided (amended) and announced this month.
To form a cultural and artistic cluster, it is important to create an environmental ecosystem where artists can perform everything from small to large-scale performances. To prepare medium-to-large performance venues, which were relatively lacking in the area, the district has been continuously negotiating with Seoul City and project implementers (Daelim, Booyoung) since 2019 to secure performance venues.
Accordingly, Special Planning Zone IV (Booyoung Hotel construction site) will be a medium-to-large multi-purpose performance hall with about 1,000 seats, and Special Planning Zone III (Acro Seoul Forest) will be operated as an exhibition hall.
The medium-to-large performance hall will become a local landmark, playing a pivotal role not only in Seongdong-gu’s leap as a cultural and artistic cluster but also as a cultural and artistic hub and landmark of Seoul, explained a district official.
Additionally, through the official announcement, floor plaques and guide signs will be installed on the public pedestrian path section that was used as the racetrack of Ttukseom Racecourse before the creation of Seoul Forest. The path will be adjusted in shape to resemble the former racetrack, leaving historical traces. The area is expected to be reborn as a cultural and artistic city where the past and present coexist.

Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “By securing medium-to-large performance venues, Seongsu-dong will play a pivotal role as a cultural and artistic center. We will continuously expand and create various cultural spaces throughout Seongsu-dong, establishing an ecosystem where artists can actively engage in diverse activities, making it truly ‘Korea’s Brooklyn’ and a ‘cultural and artistic city.’”
