[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 14th that it will actively promote the transition of the existing 'Resident Autonomy Committee' to a 'Resident Autonomy Council,' which will serve as the center for grassroots resident autonomy realization.
The county has selected Danseong-myeon and Sindeung-myeon as pilot implementation areas to ensure the smooth establishment of the 'Resident Autonomy Council' and has been conducting education for public officials in charge of the work as well as resident autonomy education for residents since last year.
As part of the Resident Autonomy Council transition project, on the 14th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., capacity-building education was conducted in Danseong-myeon, the pilot project site, targeting about 30 local residents and public officials.
The resident autonomy capacity-building education was prepared to enhance understanding of the Resident Autonomy Council, a representative organization with strengthened resident participation functions, and to strengthen the operational foundation.
The education included lectures and discussions by Lee Min-ju and Seo Hyun-jin, community cooperation supporters from Gyeongnam, and Choi Seung-je, a lecturer from the Department of Public Administration at Gyeongsang National University.
In particular, the education covered the necessity of transitioning to the Resident Autonomy Council, the differences between the Resident Autonomy Committee and the Resident Autonomy Council, local problem-solving tasks, and the role of the Resident Autonomy Council.
Once the Resident Autonomy Council is established and operated in the area, the county plans to actively support it administratively and financially. Especially, through the pilot implementation, the county will improve issues arising from the operation and expand the Resident Autonomy Council.
