Protecting COVID-19 Livelihood Delinquents, Zero Tolerance for Chronic and Habitual Defaulters
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] If you fall behind on your automobile tax, Google and big data will catch you and make it impossible to evade payment.
Google and big data are even tasked with tracking automobile tax delinquents. They provide distribution information of delinquent vehicles on a map.
Ulsan City announced on the 14th that starting in July, it will begin license plate seizure activities targeting habitual and chronic automobile tax delinquents using a new enforcement method called the "Delinquent Vehicle Distribution Map."
The Delinquent Vehicle Distribution Map uses big data to generate coordinates of delinquent taxpayers' addresses on a map, visualizing areas with concentrated delinquent vehicles. This allows for the designation of focused enforcement areas by district and county, enabling more thorough crackdowns than before.
Vehicles subject to seizure are those with automobile tax delinquency of two or more times (three or more times for vehicles registered in other cities, counties, or provinces). Vehicles with delinquent local taxes, non-tax revenues, and various vehicle-related fines exceeding 300,000 KRW are also subject to enforcement.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "We will protect livelihood-type delinquents who are struggling due to the prolonged economic downturn caused by COVID-19 by granting deferments and installment payments. For vehicles with chronic delinquency, we will implement strong collection activities such as public auctions to achieve fair taxation."
