From August 1, Gyeongjeon Line KTX Increased, Suseo-bound KTX Service Available
Increase to 4 Trains on Weekdays and Weekends, Reduced Operation Intervals
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Busan Regional Headquarters of the Railway Union announced on the 13th that the Gyeongjeon Line will have 4 additional weekday runs and 2 additional weekend runs, with 2 additional train sets deployed on weekends.
To accommodate this additional operation, 8 KTX-Sancheon train sets from the Gangneung Line will be allocated to the Gyeongjeon Line and others, while 8 surplus EMU-260 (Eum, semi-high-speed trains) train sets will be assigned to the Gangneung Line.
By utilizing the increased KTX services starting August 1, a new KTX service bound for Suseo can be established.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to prioritize deploying 1 SRT train set on the Jeolla Line starting September, operating 4 one-way trips daily.
Accordingly, opposition from the Gyeongnam region and Pohang region is expected due to perceived regional discrimination against the Gyeongjeon Line and others.
