Gwangyang Police Station, Promotion of Women's Safety Environment Improvement Project with Related Organizations
Installation of Floor Lighting in Vulnerable Areas Such as Parks and Streets on the Way Home After Business Agreement
[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] The Gwangyang Police Station in Jeonnam (Chief Kim Jungho) announced on the 13th that it will promote a project to improve the safety living environment for women in collaboration with the Gwangyang City Women's Association, Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, and Korea Electric Power Corporation Gwangyang Branch.
To this end, on the 13th, the participating organizations signed a business agreement and agreed to install floor lighting in some vulnerable areas of Jungdong Neighborhood Park in Gwangyang City as a project for this year.
Jungdong Neighborhood Park, about 100,000㎡ in size, includes a rose garden, sports facilities, and walking trails, but some walking trails are dark and have few passersby, causing many women who use the area to feel anxious and request improvements. Accordingly, the Gwangyang Police Station, together with members of the Women's Association, conducted an on-site inspection and collected opinions from female users in April this year, agreeing to install floor lighting. In May, they requested participation from Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority and Korea Electric Power Corporation Gwangyang Branch, and through a business agreement on July 13, this project was launched.
Additionally, Gwangyang City also recognized the necessity of the project and promised to participate in environmental improvement activities such as pruning landscaping trees and garbage collection.
Kim Jungho, Chief of Gwangyang Police Station, said, "I am very pleased that several organizations have come together to promote a crime prevention environment improvement project. We will continue to carry out improvement projects in areas where women feel unsafe in cooperation with participating organizations."
