Union Member Vote Line Passes Strike Action Vote with 73.8% Approval
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] The Hyundai Motor Labor Union has secured the legal right to engage in industrial action.
On the 12th, according to the Hyundai Motor Union, the Central Labor Relations Commission conducted labor dispute mediation regarding wage and collective bargaining between Hyundai Motor management and the union, and judged that the gap between the two sides was significant, deciding to suspend the mediation.
Accordingly, the Hyundai Motor Union has secured the legal right to strike. Typically, when a strike vote is passed in a union member ballot and the Central Labor Relations Commission decides to suspend mediation, the union obtains the legal right to take industrial action, including strikes. Previously, in a strike vote conducted among all 48,599 union members of Hyundai Motor, 73.8% of the members voted in favor, passing the motion.

Meanwhile, the Hyundai Motor Union is demanding a base pay increase of 99,000 won, performance bonuses amounting to 30% of net profit, extension of the retirement age to 64, and an industrial transition agreement. On the other hand, the management has proposed a base pay increase of 50,000 won, performance bonuses of 100% plus 3 million won, and a quality improvement incentive of 2 million won in previous negotiations, resulting in a stalemate.
