Jeonnam Province Strengthens 'Public Transportation Disinfection' Focusing on Safety During Vacation Season
Emergency Joint Public-Private Quarantine Inspection in Preparation for the 4th Wave of COVID-19
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province is strengthening public transportation quarantine measures for safety during the vacation season.
The province announced on the 12th that it recently conducted an emergency joint public-private quarantine inspection in the public transportation sector in preparation for the fourth wave of COVID-19 spreading mainly in the metropolitan area.
This is because, with the full-fledged summer vacation season approaching and the increase in tourists, there are concerns about the spread in the Jeonnam region, making thorough preemptive quarantine inspections important.
Since July last year, when mask-wearing became mandatory on public transportation, the province has been regularly inspecting the COVID-19 quarantine situation in the public transportation sector jointly with city and county governments.
This quarantine inspection was carried out over two days until the 11th by the province and volunteers together.
It focused on multi-use facilities such as terminals and train stations, as well as transportation means like buses and taxis, especially visiting 144 bus companies and 256 taxi companies and branches.
The inspection emphasized the promotion of quarantine rules and checking compliance.
They thoroughly checked whether passengers on transportation and at facilities were wearing masks and adhering to the rule prohibiting food consumption inside vehicles.
It was promoted that violators of these rules face fines of 100,000 KRW for users and up to 3 million KRW for managers and operators.
Volunteers took charge of improving hygiene of quarantine supplies and organizing facility environments, while also conducting promotional activities for compliance with quarantine rules together with provincial officials.
Additionally, they carefully checked quarantine practices in daily life such as the provision of hand sanitizers at terminals and vehicles, and temperature checks of users. For train stations and terminals where many people gather, they guided passengers to separate boarding and alighting routes to avoid overlap.
In the short term, they also confirmed whether electronic entry logs were mandatorily completed when using chartered buses.
The inspection results were generally favorable. Moving forward, the province plans to strengthen the quarantine system and visitor log management to protect the safety of tourists and residents, and conduct additional joint inspections with city and county governments depending on the COVID-19 transmission trends.
