Increase of 2,790 Vaccine Adverse Reactions Over 3 Days... 15 More Deaths, Causality Unconfirmed
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Cases reporting adverse reactions after COVID-19 vaccination continue to emerge steadily.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team) on the 10th, a total of 2,790 new cases suspected of adverse reactions after vaccination were reported to health authorities over the three days from the 7th to the 9th of this month.
By vaccine type, there were 1,285 cases for AstraZeneca, 1,240 for Pfizer, 169 for Janssen, and 96 for Moderna. The daily number of adverse reaction reports was 916 on the 7th, 865 on the 8th, and 1,009 on the 9th.
Among the new reports, there were a total of 15 death reports, with 6 each for AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccine recipients, and the remaining 3 having received the Janssen vaccine. The causal relationship between vaccination and death has not yet been confirmed.
There were 7 new suspected cases of anaphylaxis, a severe systemic allergic reaction (1 for AstraZeneca, 4 for Pfizer, and 2 for Moderna). The Promotion Team plans to evaluate the relevance to vaccination after expert review.
The main adverse reaction cases increased by 143 over the three days. Among these, 88 were related to AstraZeneca, 46 to Pfizer, 7 to Janssen, and 2 to Moderna vaccines.
Since vaccinations began on February 26, the cumulative number of suspected adverse reaction reports is 100,833. Compared to the cumulative first and second dose vaccinations in the country as of midnight that day (20,245,627 doses), this represents about 0.50%. The current reporting rates of adverse reactions relative to vaccination doses are 0.65% for AstraZeneca, 0.63% for Janssen, 0.55% for Moderna, and 0.25% for Pfizer, respectively.
As of midnight on the day, the cumulative number of reported deaths is 401. By vaccine type among the deceased, there were 224 for Pfizer, 171 for AstraZeneca, and 6 for Janssen.
There were 150 cases where symptoms were initially reported as other conditions but worsened to severe status resulting in death as of midnight on the 10th. Including these, the total number of deaths is 551. No death cases have been reported among Moderna vaccine recipients yet.
The total number of major suspected adverse reaction cases is 4,244, with 2,815 for AstraZeneca, 1,182 for Pfizer, 243 for Janssen, and 4 for Moderna.

Of all adverse reaction reports, 95.0%, or 95,745 cases, were classified as general cases with relatively mild symptoms such as muscle pain, headache, fever, and nausea occurring after vaccination.
