Gwangyang City Library Hosts Author Lecture for This Year's Youth Book of the Year
Conducted Remotely at School to Prevent COVID-19
[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Gwangyang City Library in Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that it will hold a special lecture by author Kim Cheong-yeon, who wrote the youth book "Why, What's Wrong with That Word?" selected as the 2021 Book of the Year, for middle and high school students in the region on July 13.
The Book of the Year author invitation lecture is held annually to foster a culture of reading in the local community by linking it to the 'One Book One Community Reading Movement' through reading, discussing, and communicating the Book of the Year together by meeting the author.
At the '2021 Book of the Year' announcement ceremony held on June 4, author Kim Cheong-yeon met citizens through a video greeting, and her youth book "Why, What's Wrong with That Word?" was introduced to attendees through a sound play performance on the same day.
This author invitation lecture will be conducted online (via ZOOM) considering the COVID-19 situation. On the afternoon of July 13, she will meet with the 2nd-year, class 4 students of Gwangyang Jecheol Middle School, and in the evening, with students of Gwangyang Jecheol High School in sequence.
Through the youth book "Why, What's Wrong with That Word?" selected for this event, the author plans to examine discriminatory expressions frequently used in daily life and have students reflect on why we need to develop linguistic sensitivity.
Author Kim Cheong-yeon has worked as a reporter for 'Together Education' and 'Publishing Journal,' and is currently a reporter for 'Hankyoreh En.'
Her works include "The Village with Books," a family reading exploration, and "The House Playing with Books," set in Paju Publishing City, known as the city of books.
A representative from Gwangyang City Library stated that lectures by author Kim Yong-hee, who wrote the adult Book of the Year "I Miss Rice," will be held at Yonggang Library on September 28, and author Eun So-hol, who wrote the children's book "Lane 5," will give a lecture at Hope Library on October 16, consecutively.
