Suncheon City Successfully Concludes '2021 Balhyo Academy'
21 Trainees Completed the Course
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] On the 9th, Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced that it held the completion ceremony for the ‘2021 Fermentation Academy’ course at the Suncheon Microbial Eco-friendly Agriculture Education Center the day before.
This course, conducted over six weeks starting June 3, was a citizen participation education program combining the production of handmade tea, blending tea manufacturing, basic theory of food fermentation microorganisms, and practical fermentation tea manufacturing. The content was designed so that anyone who completed the course could utilize it.
In particular, the ‘2021 Fermentation Academy’ aimed to increase citizens’ interest and understanding of fermented tea and fermented beverages, provide information on the fermented food industry, and introduce ways to use various local agricultural products such as green tea and maesil (Korean plum) produced in our region. It is expected to help discover diverse utilization methods and consumption of local agricultural products in the future.
The completion ceremony summarized the educational content so far, awarded certificates to 21 graduates, included presentations of impressions, and evaluations of the trainees’ practical works. Participants also shared opinions on the fermented beverages they each made and discussed differences in taste and aroma due to fermentation.

As interest in fermented foods is rising rapidly with the growth of the ‘fermented food industry using our agricultural products,’ the city plans to expand related education to improve fermentation food processing and practical technology using various local agricultural products. It will also develop and operate educational programs that enable communication by discovering and applying cases from fermented food industry companies and agricultural sites.
