Gyeonggi-do Surpasses 400 COVID-19 Cases for the First Time This Year... Second Highest Ever
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The number of new COVID-19 cases in Gyeonggi-do exceeded 400 for the first time this year.
Gyeonggi-do announced on the 9th that 405 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed on the 8th, including 396 local cases and 9 imported cases. This is the first time this year that the number of confirmed cases exceeded 400.
Also, the 405 cases in one day is the second highest number in the province since the domestic COVID-19 outbreak began on January 20 last year. The previous record was 411 cases on December 15, last year, at the peak of the third wave.
The government held a Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters meeting on the morning of the same day and decided to apply Level 4, the highest level of the new social distancing system, to the Seoul metropolitan area where the situation is severe, for two weeks starting from the 12th.
Under Level 4, only up to two people can gather after 6 p.m. (private gatherings of three or more people are prohibited). Events such as briefings or commemorations are banned.
Also, all assemblies and events except for solo protests are completely banned, and only relatives can attend weddings and funerals.

Meanwhile, the bed occupancy rate of COVID-19 dedicated hospitals secured by the province rose to 79.3% (694 out of 875 beds in use), up from 75.9% the previous day. The bed occupancy rate at eight living treatment centers was 86.5%, similar to the previous day's 87.7%.
