Seogwipo Coast Guard Conducts Special Crackdown on Drunk Sailing
From the 10th to the 25th of this month... Simultaneous Operations on Sea and Land
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Seogwipo Maritime Police Station announced on the 9th that it will conduct a special crackdown on drunk navigation at sea during the peak summer season.
According to Seogwipo Maritime Police Station, this special crackdown on drunk navigation will go through a publicity and guidance period until the 9th, and will be conducted from the 10th to the 25th of this month.
The crackdown targets all vessels operating in the Seogwipo sea area, including multi-use ships, cargo ships, fishing boats, and water leisure equipment. The crackdown standard is a blood alcohol concentration of 0.03% or higher, the same as on land.
During the special crackdown period, patrol vessels will focus on densely populated ship areas, major routes such as Seogwipo Port, and high-risk sea areas, while on land, sudden drunk navigation crackdowns will be conducted simultaneously on sea and land at major ports during ship arrivals and departures.
A Seogwipo Maritime Police official stated, "Since ship accidents caused by drunk navigation can lead to large-scale casualties, we will apply a zero-tolerance policy upon detection along with strong crackdowns," and added, "We urge ship-related personnel to be vigilant about drunk navigation."
