[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The first shared infrastructure facility for small-scale manufacturers in Incheon has opened.
According to Incheon City on the 8th, the shared infrastructure facility established in the small-scale manufacturer cluster area of Songhyeon and Songnim-dong, Dong-gu, is equipped with shared equipment rooms such as processing rooms, precision measurement rooms, and development rooms, as well as training rooms and conference rooms. Local small-scale manufacturers can use the equipment and facilities free of charge.
Last June, the city was selected in the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' public contest for the 'Designation of Small-scale Manufacturer Cluster Areas and Construction of Shared Infrastructure Facilities,' designating the Songhyeon and Songnim-dong area in Dong-gu as the 'Incheon Materials, Parts, and Equipment Industry Hub Complex.' The city invested 3 billion KRW, including national funds, to build the shared infrastructure facility there.
Small-scale manufacturers are defined under the Special Act on Support for Urban-type Small-scale Manufacturers as manufacturing companies with fewer than 10 regular employees, concentrated in a specific area, based on labor-intensive and skilled technology.
The small-scale manufacturer cluster area in Songhyeon and Songnim-dong, Dong-gu, is home to many skilled artisans with an average business experience of over 15 years and a dense concentration of small-scale manufacturers with machinery and equipment.
Additionally, more than 52% of the total area of Dong-gu is industrial zone, providing conditions where all processes from manufacturing to sales and distribution of materials, parts, and equipment can be conducted within the cluster area.
Following the establishment of the shared infrastructure facility, the city plans to strengthen the competitiveness of small-scale manufacturers by implementing various customized projects such as operating a management university, improving production and quality control, and supporting product market development for manufacturers within the cluster.

Mayor Park Namchun said, "With the shared infrastructure facility capable of supporting intellectual property-related certification and utilizing various measurement equipment, an environment has been created to overcome the small scale and aging of small manufacturers," adding, "I hope this becomes a 'convergence space' where not only space, facilities, and technology are shared but also mutual reliance and cooperation are fostered."
