Goyang-si, Building KINTEX with Determination for 'Good Jobs'
Accelerating Construction Procedures for Techno Valley and Others
Targeting 140,000 Jobs Creation by 2028
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province is aiming to become an "economic city equipped with self-sufficient facilities" and is focusing on creating "quality jobs" that provide stable livelihoods rather than just simple employment.
To this end, Goyang City is currently advancing administrative procedures for large-scale facility construction projects on the 1 million-pyeong scale Ilsan self-sufficient facility site, including Goyang Ilsan Technovalley, Broadcasting and Video Valley, KINTEX Exhibition Center 3, and CJ LiveCity.
According to the city on the 9th, the construction of KINTEX Exhibition Center 3, which passed the central investment review last November, is scheduled to issue a basic design service order this year. Goyang Ilsan Technovalley is proceeding with the implementation plan approval in August and the procedures for starting construction in the second half of the year.
The Gyeonggi Goyang Broadcasting and Video Valley, which held a groundbreaking ceremony last May, will soon complete the removal of obstacles and relocation procedures and begin full-scale site development work in the second half of the year.
The CJ LiveCity Arena performance hall, including a K-pop concert hall and theme park, also received building permit approval in June and is accelerating preparations to start construction in the second half of the year.
The city expects these development projects to create 140,000 jobs by 2028. The large-scale Changneung New Town construction project is also raising expectations for a self-sufficient city, with pre-sales starting this year.
Additionally, Goyang City operates the "Goyang Customized Job School," which trains and employs on-site practical talents tailored to companies in specialized and advanced industries such as broadcasting and communications, MICE, and drones.
Besides youth spaces like "Cheongchi Dabang" and "2·8 Youth Startup Center," the city is also focusing on youth employment and education through programs such as "Cat Employment Academy" and "Goyang Minerva School." This is to nurture young people into customized talents desired by companies and connect them to jobs.

Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Goyang City stated, "Good jobs desired by citizens must ultimately be created in the private sector, not the public sector," adding, "During the remaining one year of the 7th elected term, we will intensify efforts to strengthen the employment safety net and recover the local economy in the short term, and to establish a foundation for future jobs in the mid to long term."
