Kosin University Gospel Hospital held a performance event themed "Singing Recovery" at 11 a.m. on the 7th in the hospital's central lobby.
Hospital Director Oh Kyung-seung personally purchased the artwork titled "Recovery (RECOVERY)" and donated it to the Jang Gi-ryeo Memorial Cancer Center, where it was exhibited in the lobby.
"Recovery" is a work by painter Song Ho-jun. Song's profound artistic world is displayed in several hospitals in the Busan area. His works are popular for offering healing to patients.
The painting, purchased by Director Oh for 30 million KRW, is a large oil painting of size 200. In 2013, he searched for artworks at Gallery H, which opened as a museum-style gallery in Dalmaji, Haeundae, and relocated to Bosu-dong, the original downtown, in 2019.
He requested a good piece suitable for a good space?one that provides healing, cure, and empathy. Upon hearing Director Oh's request, Gallery H introduced painter Song.
The artwork now faces patients in the hospital's largest space, the Jang Gi-ryeo Memorial Cancer Center.
At the entrance of the central lobby that day, an exhibition was also held displaying the bound contents of a Bible manuscript handwritten by about 1,900 hospital staff to commemorate the hospital's 70th anniversary.
Kim Young-dae, the chaplain who planned the Bible manuscript event, explained, "The entire staff sincerely transcribed the entire Bible to symbolize the recovery of patients' health, the restoration of staff faith, and the revival of the Gospel Hospital's vision."
The event carried the meaning of hoping for recovery as a hospital that gives hope through acts of love and receives love on its 70th anniversary.
The second part featured a concert by tenor Kim Ji-ho, a vocalist from Busan. In his youth, after working in a factory and suffering an accident, he resolved to communicate through singing and struggled to enter the music department at Kyungsung University.
He later continued his studies at the Cologne University of Music in Germany and performed in many opera stages such as "Turandot."
Hospital Director Oh Kyung-seung said, "Despite the ongoing chaotic situation due to the pandemic, I am pleased to offer music and artworks to outpatients and hospitalized patients visiting the hospital. On the 70th anniversary, I want to restore the founding philosophy of the hospital and extend healing hands to everyone."
During this event, Kosin University Hospital also signed an agreement with the architectural firm Maison for the construction of a smart eco-hospital and for marine healing architecture in Eco Delta City, preparing for a second leap forward.
