[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] SK Rent-a-Car announced on the 8th that it has won the Grand Prize in the rental car category at the '2021 National Service Awards.'
The National Service Awards are given in each category by the Industrial Policy Research Institute (IPS), a corporation under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, based on the Korean Standard Industrial Classification, utilizing data from the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry's database and the domestic corporate status information system to evaluate ▲service value ▲customer satisfaction ▲marketing and communication.
SK Rent-a-Car explained that it was recognized for its contribution to enhancing customer value by launching various products and services reflecting customer trends. In March, SK Rent-a-Car joined the Ministry of Environment's 'Korean-style Zero Emission Vehicle Transition 100' campaign, announcing that it will convert all rental vehicles it owns to 100% eco-friendly cars by 2030. Including the 98 billion KRW green bonds issued for the first time since its founding in February this year, SK Rent-a-Car is currently using a total of 170 billion KRW to purchase eco-friendly electric vehicles.
Last month, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the largest electric vehicle-exclusive complex in Jeju Island. Together with various partners such as Jeju Provincial Government, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and Tesla Korea, SK Rent-a-Car plans to introduce 3,000 electric vehicles by 2025 and build a 7,200 kW charging facility capable of simultaneous charging. Additionally, with an investment of 40.6 billion KRW, by September next year, it plans to construct buildings and related facilities using eco-friendly construction methods on a 7,200-pyeong Jeju branch site and a 1,000-pyeong Seogwipo site, creating a complex cultural space where cars and people can charge and rest together.
Through this, SK Rent-a-Car plans to reduce 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide, 40 tons of air pollutants, and 44,000 liters of waste oil annually through 3,000 electric vehicles, participating in making a 'carbon-free Jeju' and further intensifying the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management promoted by SK Group.
