Daegum, Decision to Reinvestigate Allegations of Perjury Against Yoon Seok-yeol's Mother-in-Law
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] The Supreme Prosecutors' Office will reopen the investigation into the obstruction of justice allegations against Choi, the mother-in-law of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol.
According to the legal community on the 6th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office issued an order to reinvestigate the obstruction of justice suspicion concerning Choi, which was raised in a retrial petition filed by Baek Eun-jong, the representative of the YouTube channel 'Seoul Voice.'
In 2003, Choi engaged in civil and criminal lawsuits over approximately 5.3 billion KRW in profits gained from investing in bonds of a sports center in Songpa-gu, Seoul, with businessman Jung Dae-taek.
At that time, Jung filed a lawsuit against Choi requesting the distribution of about 2.65 billion KRW, claiming that they had an agreement to share the profits. However, Choi accused Jung of coercion and attempted fraud, asserting that the agreement was made under duress. Jung was found guilty by the Supreme Court in 2006 and sentenced to two years in prison.
Last year, Representative Baek accused Choi of giving false testimony in court at that time and filed charges against Choi and Yoon’s wife, Kim Kun-hee, for obstruction of justice and forgery of private documents.

In response, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office decided not to prosecute, and the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office dismissed the appeal.
