Gangjin County Office Cycling Team Wins Overall Championship at Yangyang National Cycling Championships

[Gangjin＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] The Jeonnam Gangjin County Office cycling team (coach Park Kyung-chun) achieved a remarkable feat by winning 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals to claim the overall championship at the 2021 KBS Yangyang National Cycling Championships held in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, from the 26th of last month to the 2nd of this month over seven days.

The Gangjin County Office cycling team had previously won the overall championship at the 38th Presidential National Cycling Championships, once again demonstrating their dominance in cycling.

According to the county on the 6th, the cycling team began their medal hunt in earnest by winning the gold medal in the team pursuit 4 km final on the second day of the competition, defeating the Uijeongbu City Hall team.

On the third day of the competition, cyclist Shin Dong-in won medals in five events (gold in Omnium Tempo Race, gold in Omnium Excluding, gold in Omnium Points, gold in overall Omnium, and silver in Omnium Scratch), while Bae Seung-bin added a bronze medal in the general excluding event.

On the fourth day, Bae Seung-bin won a silver medal in the men's general 10 km tempo race; on the fifth day, in the men's general Madison 40 km, Kim Sang-pyo and Shin Dong-in showcased powerful teamwork to win a bronze medal; and on the final day, Shin Dong-in added a bronze medal in the men's general 42 km road solo race, securing the overall championship.

Additionally, coach Park Kyung-chun, who led the cycling team, received the Best Coach Award at this competition, further enhancing the reputation of Gangjin County as a sports mecca and reaffirming their top-tier domestic capabilities.

County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “I am proud of the athletes who endured tough training and achieved excellent results despite the COVID-19 situation,” adding, “Gangjin County will continue to provide strong support so that the athletes do not lose energy and can fully realize their potential.”
