Yoo Seung-min's Pledge to Abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family: "I Will Save That Money to Support Veterans"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoo Seung-min, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, pledged on the 6th to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
On the same day, Yoo said through social media (SNS), "Is the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family really necessary? Half of the population is female, and all government ministries are related to women's issues," adding, "The Ministry of Health and Welfare should handle women's health and welfare; the Ministry of Employment and Labor should handle women's employment, workplace discrimination, vocational training, and reemployment issues for career-interrupted women; the Ministry of SMEs and Startups should support entrepreneurship and business owners; the Ministry of Justice, prosecution, and police should address sexual crimes, domestic violence, and dating violence; and the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Education should be responsible for child-rearing and care issues."
He said, "Common sense tells anyone that all these tasks can be well managed by ministries other than the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family."
He pointed out, "This year, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's budget is 1.2325 trillion won. Of that, 60% is spent on single-parent family child-rearing and care projects, 30% on youth social safety nets and digital sex crime response, and only 8% on employment support for career-interrupted women. There is no reason to have a separate ministry with a minister, vice minister, and directors for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family."
Yoo, who also pledged to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in the last presidential election, said, "I will abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family," and added, "The budget overlapping with other ministries' projects will be used to introduce a Korean-style G.I. Bill for young people who have completed their mandatory military service."
Earlier, Yoo promised benefits for those who have completed military service in housing, education, vocational training, pensions, and career recognition. This includes awarding additional points when applying for housing subscriptions.
