The number of people who received the first dose of the vaccine surpassed 15.4 million, approaching a vaccination rate of 30%.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 6th at midnight that the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases increased by 746 from the previous day to 161,541. The sources of infection for the new cases were 690 local transmissions and 56 imported cases.
About 81% of the locally transmitted cases occurred in the Seoul metropolitan area. There were 313 cases (45.4%) in Seoul, 224 cases (32.5%) in Gyeonggi, and 20 cases (2.9%) in Incheon, totaling 557 cases in the metropolitan area.
In other regions, confirmed cases were reported as follows: 27 in Busan, 26 in Daejeon, 17 in Gyeongnam, 11 in Chungnam, 11 in Gyeongbuk, 7 in Daegu, 6 in Gangwon, 6 in Jeonbuk, 5 in Sejong, 4 in Gwangju, 4 in Jeonnam, 4 in Jeju, 3 in Ulsan, and 2 in Chungbuk.
There were 56 imported cases. Among them, 30 were detected during quarantine, and 26 were confirmed locally. Of these, 43 were Korean nationals and 13 were foreigners. By country, Indonesia, where the Delta variant (Indian variant) is rapidly spreading, accounted for the largest number with 21 cases. Among them, 19 were Korean nationals and 2 were foreigners.
The total number of tests conducted in one day was 89,961. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 50,815 tests were conducted, confirming 89 new cases, while 3,564 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics outside the metropolitan area, confirming 10 cases.
On the 5th, when the cross-vaccination of AstraZeneca (AZ) and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines began, a citizen who received the first dose of the AZ vaccine is receiving the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine at H Plus Yangji Hospital in Gwanak-gu, Seoul.

Meanwhile, as of midnight on the same day, 53,758 people received new COVID-19 vaccinations. The cumulative number of first-dose vaccinations reached 15,401,361, recording a vaccination rate of 29.99% of the population. Among the newly vaccinated, 368 received AstraZeneca (AZ), 50,361 received Pfizer, and 3,029 received Moderna.

The number of people who completed vaccination increased by 42,046 from the previous day to 5,368,227. The population vaccination rate for the second dose is 10.5%. Among those who received the first dose of the AZ vaccine, 5,585 received the second dose of AZ vaccine, and 30,048 received the second dose as a cross-vaccination with the Pfizer vaccine. An additional 6,413 people completed vaccination with only the Pfizer vaccine, bringing the total to 3,228,632. Moderna’s additional vaccination interval has not yet arrived.
