"Disaster Area Free Appliance Repairs" LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Winia Sign MOU with Ministry of the Interior and Safety
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] LG Electronics announced on the 6th that it will collaborate with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to provide free repairs for home appliances in areas affected by natural disasters such as typhoons and heavy rain, together with Samsung Electronics and Winia Dimchae.
The three companies and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety signed a "Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to Promote Free Repairs of Home Appliances in Natural Disaster-Affected Areas" at the Government Seoul Office in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the same day. Attendees at the signing ceremony included Kim Heegyeom, Director of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; Jeon Myeongwoo, Vice President and Head of Public Relations/External Cooperation Center at LG Electronics; Na Gihong, Vice President and Head of Social Contribution Division at Samsung Electronics; and Park Jongmun, Executive Director and Head of Quality Management Office at Winia Electronics.
This MOU was established to ensure that customers can receive free repair benefits in the event of damage caused by natural disasters. The three home appliance companies will operate a joint free repair team near the disaster areas. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will assess the damage situation, share the information with the three companies, and support necessary facilities and supplies for operating the joint free repair team in cooperation with local governments.
If home appliances are flooded or damaged in disaster areas, inspections and repairs will be provided free of charge. Repairs for key components such as motors, mainboards, and display modules will be charged, but up to 50% of the repair costs may be subsidized depending on the parts. Information on the operation period and locations of the joint free repair teams will be provided by local governments and the service centers of the three home appliance companies.
LG Electronics expects this MOU to provide practical assistance to customers affected by natural disasters.
